Welcom my new baby Keeley...just in from the shelter

Post by KEELEY on Thu Apr 14, 2011 3:51 pm

HI everyone! I am new to the forum. I picked up my new son Keeley from the shelter Tuesday. We went straight to the groomers! He was a tangled, stinky, mess. Boy does he feel better! I feel sure he must have had good mommy or daddy at one time. He is so well behaved, and sweet as can be. We are working on the potty training though. They estimated him to be a year old, my vet said barely a year old. She said I saved a good one! He loves everyone....only problem is, and it is really stressing me out is...my cat hates him! She is two years old, and is used to having all of my attention. He just wants to visit with her, but she can't stop growling and hissing long enough to give him a chance. She loves to play, and I think they can be great friends if she will let them. I hope so, it is really causing me alot of anxiety...I don't want her to think I was trying to replace her, I want her to know I love them both. They are going to be together for a very long time! Wink

Hello Kim welcome to the forum. Congratultions on getting Keeley, looking forward to pics Wink
Your cat will just need time to adjust , my cat was a tough nut and wasnt really phased by all my dogs/puppies that came along but she told them who was boss and they knew how far to push her. Fingers crossed in a few weeks they will be friends or at least she will tollerate him.

Thank you for the welcome! I have a feeling I have joined a forum that is far away? Where are you located? Not that it matters....I just wanted to join, since this is my first little shih tzu, and I am very excited? (I can just tell by your "accent' LOL!)

HI Kim, welcome to the forum...I have heard lots of stories of feisty cats who after time came round to the new dog/puppy and they ended up best of friends, im sure in time your cat will begin to see the puppy is not a threat and they will live alongside each other, its probably just the initial shock. Lots of love and cuddles will help Im sure cheers

Well I am a little crazy, so I should fit right in. Just forgive me if it looks like I am posting in the middle of the night! LOL. It's only 12:39 my time right now. :) Glad to meet you all, and I will keep you updated on the cat situation. By the way, the cat's name is Stormy, and the name fits!
