for doing all the right things Leanne

Where did you first here of the breeder you were thinking of buying from??

Is she an accredited breeder ??you can check that out with the Kennel Club

There is a section on here "Find A Puppy Or Breeder" which will go a long way in helping you make the right choices and ask the right questions

A responsible breeder will not mind how many questions you ask and would expect someone new to the breed to want a full rundown on all aspects of owning of shiddie

Jules has posted all the good sources of finding a good puppy from a good breeder above for you

The shihtzu club have a puppy co-ordinator who would help you find a good breeder or litter in your area

Good luck and like the others have said many people do not research the breed be forehand just see a shiddie in a long flowing coat and think it gets like that all on it's own or a little one in a puppy cut and then find out that has to be clipped in to shape every 12 weeks or so.

So many people do not realize how much grooming is involved with this delightful breed of fur baby but in all honesty every minute is worth it.

Please keep us up to date on how your search pans out

    Hi Leanne

I would stasy clear of that sort of breeder, there are many good breeders out there, and I am sure there are some near you to.

Its far better to wait and buy a dog from a caring breeder than from a BYB, in my book.

Where abouts in the country do you live ?
Jules has posted some good places to start also we do have a puppy co-ordinator

Hope you get a lovely healthy shih tzu puppy

Hi thanks everyone. I found her on a pet selling website which I now realise is a mistake, she stated she was registered I asked what with and she said DLRC? I thought that was a puppy mill club?
Well anyway, although I'm quite sad I have decided to look elsewhere, better safe than sorry. I have registered with champdogs and the KC puppy finder and will just keep searching.
On the bebo page the stud looks shaved...personally I don't like this look, I mean if you can't be bothered with the daily brushing why bother with this breed?!

That would be great MaggieF as I've heard recommendations are the best route! I don't mind waiting, at least that way I can be even more prepared (well as much as you can be for a little pup!) and I live in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Travelling won't be a promlem either but not too far, for the puppy's sake. Doubt it will enjoy a ten hour drive hehe.
    Thanks everyone xxx

    DLRC

    Dog Lovers Registration Club

It's perfectly legit and is used by people who can't register for one reason or another with the Kennel Club

I am sure Maggie will PM you numbers of good breeders your way when she is on next hopefully one of them will either have pups now or litters on the way

Well, I won't have mine with a full coat, just a puppy cut maybe a bit longer as I have the time to groom.
I just personally don't like the shaved look but when I think about it, why should not having the time to spend hours grooming stop someone from having one of the cutest breeds out there! Bit rude of me really seeing as I've never actually owned one!

sorry Leanne have changed your settings so you can PM Maggie now

Length of coat is just a personal choice like Fluff says long and flowing is hard work and not everyone has the time or inclination to go this route.

Puppy cut is lovely as well and easy to maintain if you have a busy lifesyle
I have two in full and one in puppy cut when you find your perfect fur baby you will be able to decide which route you wanna go down
