RIP Lucy Lou - We will miss you xxx

Post by Mrs Mitch on Tue Nov 17, 2009 11:15 pm

Just wanted to put a post up for my Mums little dog that went to Rainbow Bridge on Monday the 16th of Nov 2009.
She wasnt a Shih Tzu but she has been my Mums very loyal and loving pet for 15.5 years.
She was not herself on Saturday, she was very slow on our walk to the Park. Mum had said she did not jump up when she got her lead out, which she normally does and was just slow slow slow.
We got round the park but she was not interested in having a little run with Isabella and Mia. She only has a 5-10 minute run around before she is jiggered but always has a go. Not Saturday though she was just plodding, her tongue was hanging out but it has done that since she had her last two teeth out 12 months ago. She was just not bothered about anything.
Mum went home with her but no real change during Saturday, she would not eat or drink, Mum spent all night up and down Saturday trying to get her to drink at least. Sunday morning at 8.30 we called the Vets and took her down. She said that her heart was strong, she was not running a temp, but did seem quite vacant and listless. They ran some blood tests and said that there did not seem to be anything jumping out at them.
Sunday about 2pm they rang and said she seemed to have picked up a bit with the glucose drip and seemed to be brighter. Then at 10pm they called my Mum and said they could not keep her counts up and they thought her Liver was closing down and the Enzymes were going to her brain which is why she was so slow and vacant. They said they were going to keep her on the drip until the mornnig but it did not look good.
Poor Mum was up all night again distraught. Rang the vets at 8.30 Monday morning and they unfortunately confirmed it was her Liver and there was nothing more they could do. The kindess thing was to put her to sleep. Mum could not go she was too upset so I went down at 9am.
The vets were so lovely, they brought her out to me and we had a little cuddle and I thanked her for being such a lovely lovely pet to my Mum and for looking after her for all these years.
Then I held her while she crossed to Rainbow Bridge
God bless Lucy Lou, I hope you are playing with Oliver at the bridge. My Mum is so upset, says that she can not have another dog as she is 65 and too old!! I am leaving her for now but I know she loves my two dogs with all her heart so you never know. I hate the thought of her being on her own.
Here is two pics taken on the 23rd of October, she was as a bright as a button then. So so sad at the moment for Lucy and my poor Mum.

Thanks Girls, I know I keep just crying, I knew I was upset but cant believe how emotional I am about it still. Think it is because I know how upset my Mum is and how it is effecting her.

Aww thanks, I know your right. Need to let my Mum grieve and then convince her she can manage another dog easy. Especially a Shih Tzu, we all know how lazy they can be sometimes LOL
Thing is she would ring me in the morning to see when what time we were taking dogs to the park and then on Saturday and Sunday when one of us was up we would text the other and say lets go to the Park and now I think it may all stop. I know she will still come with me but it would be much nicer for my Mum to have her own dog, I know she loves the company. I dont know, dont want to push her at the minute, but dont want her to just sit around indoors moping either

Nikki, I am so very sorry for your mom and for you. It happened so quickly and I am glad that Lucy didn't suffer. I am near your mom's age and I can't imagine NOT having a little one (or two) to care for. I would be lost in the day without them. As we get older, we don't do and go as much as before and so having my babies home with me and their need for me to care for them gives me so much joy and purpose. You are so right to let your mom grieve for awhile, but sometimes it is best to jump right in....and not take too long. Years ago, my sister lost her dog that she loved dearly and waited almost two years before getting another. She said a million time after...."why did I wait so long"....

Prayers for Lucy Lou...RIP sweet little girl. And big hugs to you mom and to you.
